SUMMARY:Food Securtiy Coalition Meeting: Experiences of Food Security Among Latinx Food Systems Workers in Oregon
DESCRIPTION:\n\nA disproportionate number of Latinx households (18% vs. 11.8% nationally) are food insecure\, and the prevalence is likely higher for undocumented Latinx immigrants. While undocumented food system workers may have unique access to foods at worksites that may buffer food insecurity\, they may also experience additional risk factors such as greater job insecurity. In addition\, cumulative structural factors may increase risk for food insecurity for Latinx\, migrant\, and food system worker individuals\, including documentation status\, unfamiliar food environments\, exclusion from formal safety nets\, and social isolation.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Gorge Grown Food Network and members of our 40+ Food Security Coalition organizations for our quarterly meeting. This meeting\, guest presenter Stephanie Grutzmacher\, Ph. D. will be with the group to share and discuss the experiences of food security among Latinx food system workers in Oregon\, informed\, in part\, by her discussions with Latinx food systems workers in Columbia Gorge area.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStephanie is an Assistant Professor in the School of Biological and Population Health Sciences at Oregon State University. Stephanie’s work focuses on food security\, nutrition literacy and the development and evaluation of family\, school and community-based nutrition education programs for low-income populations.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is open to the public (not only Food Security Coalition Members).\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease RSVP: http://bit.ly/FSCmtg\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more about the Food Security Coalition: www.gorgegrown.com/foodsecurity\n\n
